I know that we all feel a little lost with losing a member like Ed Dingman. He passed away Wednesday morning at his home after having heart surgery last week. Ed was a combat veteran as well as a retired law enforcement officer like myself and five others in the association. He served his country and our association in many ways. I personally feel a little lost. I do because over the years my family and his have stayed in touch in between reunions and I considered him and Judy to be a good friends. Ed was quick to jump into any type of project we had as well as helping out financially. Ed and Judy were both known to be good Christian people.
The association will be sending flowers with the same arrangement used for other deceased members The design seems to be favored by several family members of those we have lost. Please keep Judy and their family in your prayers. Remember cards, calls, emails, and prayers go a long way!
God Bless you Ed Dingman. Your shift and tour of duty is over. Rest In Peace my brother.

Hello fellow 17th Artillery Regiment Veterans,
We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday. As we all get ready for Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year, this is a very difficult time to pass on sad news to you.
It is with a very heavy heart that I must inform you that our most cherished Army brother and friend, Ed Dingman, passed away this morning. Ed was home with Judy and they had just finished their breakfast meal. Ed started having some breathing issues and Judy called 911. Emergency help arrived and they worked on Ed for a good while; but they could not revive Ed.
Ed had undergone triple bypass surgery on November 17, 2021. His recovery was progressing in a steady manner; and he arrived home on November 24. Judy and Ed had a nice Thanksgiving with assistance from their church.
Judy expects that the services will be held on Monday.
As our association chaplain always says: “Remember cards, calls, emails, and prayers go a long way!”
Check our association roster for their address. If you need the address – send me an email.
If you made it to the Gettysburg Reunion – you saw first-hand Ed’s dedication to our association in the frames he made for our 17th Artillery Regiment Association banners and his presentation of the POW Ceremony.
June and I expect to make the trip to Aurora, Missouri for the services.
Respectfully,
Gil Bernabe – President, 17th ARA
Dr. Gil Bernabe
Ref. Harry Fetsick: I spoke with Harry today after learning he'd been hospitalized and is home now. He was passing blood in his abdominal area and some coughing of it. The Dr.s put him on blood thinners and now believe that may have been the cause of his hemoraging. His heart also had an abnormal beat. He was given a sedative and is believed to have had 'cardioversion'' to return it to normal. He informed me that his catheter has just been removed. Harry also asks that you remember his first cousin Bob Richard's family of Turtle Creek, PA who passed away last night. Please keep his family in your prayers. (Unknown cause at present.) Harry and I had prayer together and we agreed to touch base in a few days to see how he is doing. Remember cards, calls, emails, and prayers can go a long way!
Ref. ED DINGMAN- I spoke with Ed's wife Judy last night. She informed me that they had a nice Thanksgiving, with help from the church as well. Their grandchildren were planning on coming but being they had the 'sniffles' it wasn't in Ed's best interest. He is walking some daily but stated he didn't think recovery was going to take this long. They appreciated the call from Bill Beers and all the prayers for Ed as he continues his recovery. Remember cards, calls, emails, and prayers go a long way!
Ref: Ed Dingman- I got the following message just now from Judy "Ed's home!! Arrived late yesterday. I think we were both wiped out. The first doctor's appointment is Friday, they don't waste time. Our church has done a T-day dinner for 30+ years (I co-chaired for several years) and will be delivering to us this year. Daughter's boys are sniffling so we want to be careful for Ed. He's on the mend, but tired today. Thanks for the prayers and cards, they do mean a lot!
Who could ask for a better Thanksgiving Blessing! Remember card, calls, emails, and prayers go a long way (as we see here.) HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL! It's also a good day to count our Blessings.

Ref. ED DINGMAN- I just got the following in from Judy Dingman about Ed.
"Just left him about an hour ago for lunch and hospital's "quiet time." They had him up, walking, and sitting in a chair for a while. He's noticing just how much pain this involves. He appears to be doing OK but is still in ICU. They removed some tubes this morning but there are still several attached. Thanks for all the prayers, but we can use more as the recovery progresses" Remember cards, calls, emails, and prayers go a long way!
Ref. Ed Dingman-Judy just contacted me and said she did see Ed. "He's still sedated but seemed to recognize my voice. Nurses said he was doing good but I still haven't seen the Dr. yet. They said he had to leave but would be back. I'm thinking prayers were answered!" Let's continue to keep and and Judy in our prayers until he's " out of the woods. Remember, cards, calls, emails and prayers go a long way!

Ref. BILL BEERS-I spoke with Bill this afternoon after he received some disturbing news from the Dr.s. He had a CT scan and blood work done recently. The results were that he was one step away from dialysis with a non-alcoholic fatty liver; an enlarged spleen, and water retention in a cavity.
Bill has asked the association and all of his friends to keep him in your prayers as he battles his condition. Remember cards, calls, emails, and mostly prayers go a long way.
Ref. HARRY FETSICK_ Harry called me today to let me know that the nodule on his lung is benign. No cancer found but he will have the yearly tests to make sure. Please continue to keep him and all the others in your thoughts and prayers. Remember cards, calls, emails, and prayers go a long way.

Ref.-HARRY FETSICK I spoke with Harry today to see if he had found anything out about the nodule on his lung. He has not found out the results as of yet. He's scheduled for cataract surgery in the near future and is keeping his diabetes under control. Remember cards, calls, emails, and prayers go a long way!
Ref. GENE JOHNSON- I spoke with Gene this evening and he and Carol wanted to send their regrets about not making the reunion this year. Gene is still on dialysis three days a week and couldn't locate a dialysis center near Gettysburg. He's on a new medicine for his diabetes that seems to be keeping it under control. Hopefully Gene and Carol can make it to Branson next year. Remember cards, calls, emails, and prayers go a long way.
Ref. BILL BEERS-I ask the association for prayers for Bill Beers and the family of Spec 5 Charles D Dicken (101 Airborne 1967). Bill was wounded in Operation Junction City. He was placed along side of other soldiers that were believed to be deceased. He said a "Dust off" (Medivac) came for them and they were taking only the wounded. When it started to leave, he put his arm over his face to keep the dirt out of his eyes. The crew chief saw Bill's movement and told the pilot not to leave that one was still alive. The crew chief pulled Bill in by his wrist and Bill woke up several days later in a hospital.
The crew chief ended up living not far from where Bill was from and belonged to several organizations that Bill did.
The crew chief was Charles D. Dicken Sept. 18,1943-2021 of Ridgeley, W. VA.
Ref: STEVE Gerhardt- I just got off the phone with Steve's friend Leigh. Steve was having PT at home this morning so I couldn't reach him but his son-in -law is currently staying with him.
