Re.:GIL Bernabe: June just me an update a few minutes ago on Gil. "He has been discharged from the hospital and has been moved to a rehab center. He is still extremely weak and they are still monitoring his oxygen. This is definitely a positive step. we are still asking that NO ONE CALLS" Richard
Ref: President Gil Bernabe and wife June: Jerry (Doc) Cody called me this evening and relayed the following message to me. "Gil is in the hospital 9 days now and has been sick with Covid-19 for approximately 14 days. He believes Gil is in a hospital in Sherman, TX. June has tested positive but is showing no signs or symptoms. The family greatly requests NO PHONE CALLS during this time" Doc Cody told me he will advise me as soon as he knows of anything and same if I do. Please keep Gil and June both in your prayers because like many people dealing with this virus, we greatly need God's help. I ask this time just send cards, emails, and prayers for them. Again the family requests NO PHONE CALLS.

Ref; PAUL SHEPHERD: It's taken a few days but I finally got hold of Paul. Reason being he cannot talk above a whisper so he can only text by phone. In Sept. he had a major aorta issue with two layers separating causing a pending "blow out." He stated he came within 2 cm of losing the battle. They got him to a hospital, did CT scan and told him, "If it blows you're dead. "(They asked him if he was afraid of helos. I got mad because I couldn't sit in the door with my on the skids." He had 2nd CT 25 minutes later Good news is he was alive. That bad news was they couldn't operate on him. They kept him 10 days. Dec. 8th did bypass on his left arm artery to left coratid artery. Dec. 9th he received a double stint one attached to the other total of about1.75 " long to reinforce aortic at left arm. His voice was damaged due tube down his throat. It may take until June to heal. Dr. says he's healing well and going back this afternoon so remember he cannot talk on phone. Please keep Paul in your thoughts and prayers, This time cards, emails, and prayers go a long way.

From the Operations Reports from 2-17 during the Vietnam War there's no record of any attack on B-2-17 at Dalat during the month of May 1970. The most casualties suffered by the 17th Artillery was on April 3, 1968 at LZ George
Not a redleg, but an overnight guest at Fire Base Colgan at Dalat in late May 1970, when the 105mm Battery (Battery B, 2/17th?) was attacked by an overwhelming force of VC. I was a Major and the S2 of Task Force South at LZ Betty, Phan Thiet. I remember the Battery suffered 30% casualties that night before successfully fighting off the major attack. Looking for any info on that encounter, official or unofficial. I am alive because of that Battery Commander and his troops.
I'd like to take a moment and wish all the Redlegs , not only those of our association but those world wide as well! You are not forgotten! MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Remember Jesus is the reason for the season!
Here's wishing you all a very happy and Blessed Thanksgiving. Remember your safety precautions so all of us can be around next year!
Ref: Sgt.Maj. James Herrington: Most of you wouldn't know this man unless you served in the 4th Bn or Hdqs. of the 17th FA.
When I joined A Btry 4th Bn 17th FA in in 1974 he was our 1sgt. After I got out my old section chief, (LM) Charles Riley told me that 'Top' made Sgt Maj. while Riley became the Chief of Smoke. ''Top' Herrington was a good soldier and a good man as well. I'd tried to locate him to get him to join our organization but couldn't find him.
He had somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30 years service to this country. Here is an excerpt from his obituary.
"Today we honor the life and celebrate the homegoing of James L. Harrington also known as Jimmy who departed this life on November 8, 2020. He was born to the parents of Lelia and John Harrington in Moncure, North Carolina on July 25, 1930.
He often talked affectionately about his military time and travel. At the age of seventeen he enlisted in the United States Army to serve in the Korean War. He served in the military for over three years with an honorable discharge on April 22, 1952 as Sergeant First Class E8 in the infantry. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for bravery and the Combat Infantry Badge which recognizes being fully participant under hostile conditions against enemy forces. He later joined the Army Reserve where he served for several years. " Rest in Peace Top.
I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving...
