CommentsA friend of mine gave me a crest that I can trace to the 2nd 17 Field Artillery, but he mentions the 3rd of the 17th. Is or was their a 3rd 17 Field Artillery stationed in Germany around the time of the Vietnam war 1964 - 1972 or there about. Any information would be helpful. Thanks and Happy Veterans Day.
CommentsTo all Veterans, Thank you for your outstanding service to our country.

CommentsDECEMBER 4, 1970 A HELICOPTER CRASH TOOK PLACE IN KHANH HOA PROVINCE. THE CRASH WAS DUE TO BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS AND TOOK PLACE ON A RETURN FLIGHT FROM NHA TRANG TO BAN ME THOUT. THE PILOT WO1 PETER BEHRENS AND CSM ANDREW MACHRISTIE OF THE 2/17th FA DIED IN THE CRASH AND A WO2 KERMIT MATTHEWS AND CAPTAIN JAMES HEIMBOLD ALSO PERISHED. I am trying to attach a unit to Cpt. Heimbold. Karl Caillouet CO of A Btry at the time thinks the 17th personnel were picking up replacements at the time. I know it happened 31 yrs ago but I am hoping someone remembers the incident. I have sent to the Nixon Library for the Letter of Condolence and Casualty Report which hopefully will list the unit. Our units KIA's are listed as 1FFV or 1st Cav Div. on the Wall. Jack
