CommentsI was on Schuller, I think it was early 1970. I was with 4th ID and was sent there to do night ambushes to keep the vc from blowing the tanks off the bridges at night when the had gaurded the bridges. Does anyone remember when we lit up the sky by blowing holes in the pipe line that was along the road.
CommentsI was assigned to the 2nd BN 17th Artillery from march 1966 to March 1967, and attached to C Battery as a medic for the most part of my tour in Vietnam.
CommentsPictures are starting to come in and I will get them to Ed Hitchner as soon as possible. They will be posted. Please send any photos or slides to me if you can not scan them yourself. I will return them. This applys to WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc Jack Picciolo
CommentsHello All, Just received the good news that 1/17th Artillery at Fort Sill Oklahoma (now in Iraq) will not be deactivating. They will be coming home next month, tenatively 1st or 2nd week. This could change as you all know. I will be there to greet our Redleg Copperheads of the 17th Artillery Regiment when they arrive home. Everyone that is interested in attending their welcome home festivities please contact me via the above email. Also the ladies at Fort Sill have created (task forces) to welcome home our soldiers and are putting together goodie baskets, buying pillows/towels ect. If any of you are interested in donating or participation let me know. Most of us are from combat era's and know what it is like when we were not welcomed home, lets greet these troops and show our support.

CommentsOn May 13,14,& 15th we will have our 2004 Walk Across Louisiana. This will be our second. The first one was in 2002. It will start on about 0700 hours Thursday May 13 and end around noon on May 15 at the USS Kidd in Baton Rouge. The Walk is dedicated to all Veterans past and present. In 2002 I walked with a Calvary Troop from the 2nd ARC from Ft. Polk. We walked about 12-15 miles a day on the western leg to Baton Rouge. It was an patriotic experience. Walking through the towns of south Louisiana with people lining both sides of the road waving flags and cheering. In Breaux Bridge we had 1000 elementary school kids walking and waving flags. If this sort of thing interests you contact me to sign up.
CommentsI was in Nam in 1970 and 1971. In May 1970 I was assigned to FDC of C Btry, 2/17Arty. at Fire Base Doris K near the airport at Ban Me Tout East. Then we took over FB Aquarius on the other side of the huge US perimeter at BMT East when the big guns departed for the states. When the 2/17 was ordered back stateside in Feb. or March or April 1971, I traveled with the unit including men, guns and equipment to Cam Ran Bay. Some men went home if they had only a short time left in country. I had extended to get out of the service early so I was assigned to B Btry. 5/27 Arty outside of Phan Rang. If we served together and ya wanta re-connect, drop me an e-mail or call. I hope and pray that each living vet of the 2/17th is well and happy. Donald(Don) Joseph Arceneaux
CommentsI was in D batry until they deactivated 1967 and then I went to LZ Shuller to join A batry. I was an assistant gunner until I started going up in the chopper every morning and FOing or AOing. I was in the 3rd gun section. Some of the men in that section that I can remember are. Sgt Bates from GA. SP/4 Cleavland from Miss. Cpl. Gunner Pfc Rhea.

CommentsFor a good part of 1968 I was the platoon leader with the twin 40 "Dusters" at LZ Action with your Alpha forward Battery and the 1/69th Armor M-48 platoon. I'm trying to locate any Artillery OCS graduates from the 60's, especially from my class, 31-67. There is a new web site dedicated to members of this group and most of the records at Ft Sill from this time period were lost. If any Robinson Barracks graduates gets this message please contact me. Thanks Dave Hornbarger
CommentsFrom a Vietnam veteran that served with A battery 2nd/17th from February 1968 till March 1969, I wanted to say THANKS! I'm impressed with the website and just happened to find it today. I plan on forwarding a copy of my DD214 to the address that is listed and I look forward to perhaps finding some guys that I served with. (One war story....----I was in the group of personnel from the 2nd/17th from An Khe that was choppered out to clean-up and secure the C battery area after it had been overrun on 3 April 1968. Your website with the article detailing the incident brought back oh so many memories. Seems as though it was only yesterday.) For most of my tour I was attached to the 1/50th 173rd mechanized infantry as a FO. And, thank the LORD, I returned to the world in one piece. Thanks for the work on the website and again many THANKS!!!
