The eighth annual reunion has come and gone, I am glad to say that in my eyes it was another rousing success thanks to the efforts of our membership supporters. Our charge on the Alamo was a success story that began with our arrival at the Hotel at Market Square . The hotel was very gracious and gave us two connecting rooms to hold our hospitality get-together. They filled our tubs with ice and kept bringing ice whenever we asked for more. Along with the hospitality rooms that were supplied to us, the hotel threw us a little hospitality get-together for our group in one of their banquet rooms. They also gave us special permission to allow “Captain Smoke” (Norman Jones) a chance to burn the structure down. We had a sausage and hamburger cook out by the pool in the middle of the hotel building by the pool. As you know, he did not, but “Captain Smoke” threw up a smoke screen that made the place look as if it were burning down.
It was noted by a lot of you who attended this year that this was the very best hotel we have ever had our reunion at because of the staff. There were kind smiles and no hesitation from any of the employees to satisfy our needs. From the dining area to the room maids, everything was just great.
Thanks to the members who were present this year. The weather really treated us nicely. We had nothing to stop us from getting out and seeing all if the sites that were available at Market Square . There were great places to eat and shop within walking distance of the hotel and for those not wanting to walk, the little trolley was there to ride. Mike and Rebecca Mason acquired a number of free tickets to the Salute to Service presented by the San Antonio Symphony. The concert was presented to the public at the Municipal Auditorium and it was reported to be a great performance.
We now will look forward to the next two reunions. 2008 will be in Washington D.C. for our 10th reunion and 9th anniversary. The following year, 2009, we will return to the roots of our association at Fort Sill , Oklahoma , for our 11th reunion and our 10th anniversary. We have already set up the hotel in Washington and are working on a dinner tour of the bay area for one of the days there. All of the information will be forthcoming about the next event, so keep your eyes on the NEW website that Ed has got up and running again. It was down for a few days while he moved us to a different provider with more space. Hope to see all of you next year.
